Roof rack specifications

Span or distance between outer edges of cross rails – 550 to 930 mm.

Thickness (vertical) of cross rails less than 35 mm.

We only recommend cross rails that are ISO certified to ensure they will not move under load.

Roof racks to use

Bolt down / fixed to the roof are the most secure and reliable.

Clamp on longitudinal rails work well when the cross rails are tightened to manufacturer specifications.

Clamp on longitudinal rails work well when the cross rails are tightened to manufacturer specifications.

We don’t recommend use with roof racks that clamp to the door sill (under the door opening). This style has proven to be insecure with poorly designed and/or installed cross rails.

We also recommend to only use ISO 11154-H approved roof racks.

Bikes we fit

Road bikes, mountain bikes, fat bikes, kids bikes, BMX, trial, commuter, cyclocross and gravel bikes, we have all your options covered. In most cases if it has a seat, handlebars and is less than 17kg Upside Racks will get you to the ride.

Bikes we don’t fit

The Upside Rack is designed to carry most bikes on the market, but unfortunately we can’t recommend our rack for the following bikes:

  • Any bikes over 17kg. This exceeds the ISO 11154-H weight limits.

  • Tri-bikes, or road bikes that have really deep aero bars (email us if you have these as we have successfully tested with most bars on the market).

  • Tandems, trikes, unicycles and penny farthings (again email us if you have a unique bike as we would love the challenge).
